All the single ladies.

I’m fascinated by women in the workforce around the turn of the last century.  Most were single, in their late teens to early twenties.  Job opportunities were factory work or household service.  The clerical sector was just emerging.

These short films from the Library of Congress give a glimpse into the factory girl’s world in 1904.
